Where it began.

  • The city.Uruk, in today's southern Iraq, grew into one of the first true cities. By about 3000 BCE, tens of thousands of people lived inside its walls.
  • Writing.Some of the earliest writing ever found was pressed into clay tablets at Uruk, more than five thousand years ago.
  • The mark.People pressed seals into clay to say: this is mine. This is where I belong.

This is URUK.

More than five thousand years after the first city, URUK is the next one: self-sufficient by design, with its own energy, water and food, and intelligent by nature, taking care of the everyday so people have more time. It will rise in Sharjah, between the University of Sharjah and AUS, and every home in it will be founded by the people who live in it.

    Every townhouse and villa has its own 2 × 3 m plot for growing food, and every apartment block has an indoor vertical farm. Vegetables, fruit, honey, eggs and fish come from the farms along both edges of the city.

    One green spine.

    About 1.4 km of park runs the length of the city, with green lanes branching off it between the homes and playgrounds along the way. Paths for walking and cycling reach every street.
